  1. Melissa, you have two great things for art! The invention of crayons and computer bring two wonderful things that artists can use to bring their work to life. Currently the new thing is photoshop, we wouldnt have such a wonderful program without computers! They bring wonderful flat pieces of art work into amazing pieces of work. It is simply amazing how far we have gotten from pencils, to crayons to now the wonderful computers!

  2. It is crazy to think that crayons were at one time considered a "technology" in art. Crayons now seem like the furthest thing from technology yet they are still an important utensil. As a math major, I can also see crayons as an important tool. Crayons can be used while making bar graphs or pie charts. Adding different colors helps students to easily see the different sections of the graphs and is also a quick fun activity to get the students involved in a lesson.

  3. Thanks so much for the replies. Yes it is amazing to think that technically crayons are still technologies. Crayons can be used for so many different subject areas. Crayons are so cool and can bring us back to our childhood. I find it relaxing sometimes to color. I know it may seem childish but there is actually a lot of zen in childish acts. For me coloring with crayons or even colored pencils is fun and relaxing to some other people maybe they have a sand garden. Which would explain the zen idea I was speaking about before.

  4. Crayons! Yes, amazing. And like you said, it's kind of hard to imagine crayons as technologies, but they just might be equally as important to art as the pencil was to writing. I'd imagine the portability of crayons, and colored pencils alike, allowed for artists to create while not being tied to their studio, which may have sparked more creative works as a result of not being cooped up in a room. And beyond that point, they're just fun, and letting kids draw with crayons in school most likely helps them develop a more positive attitude towards school.

  5. I didn't even consider Crayons to be a technology! However they are so important in the art world! Color has so much meaning behind it in a business world (different colors show different emotion, different audiences can be targeted this way.) And of course the computer! Without the computer tools such as photoshop or Adobe would not be around. You can change so much about a photo with the computer that everyone now thinks they are a photographer since they have an Instagram.
